I remember well, with great emotion, my first experience of sailing on Loch Tay in Scotland with my Father whilst on holiday, using a small 4.00 metre heavy wooden rowing/sailing boat, which doubled up as a trailer for our camping gear. Acquiring the enthusiasm at about 14 years of age, and having little hand or foot to eye co-ordination for ball games I convinced dad to join our local sailing club, which set a pattern for my life so far. The activity and the Club, provided the means to meet many people, from all walks of life, and allowed good social skills to develop. I had found a Sport I could reasonably do and this led to the confidence level for greater achievement. My father and myself became heavily involved within the Sailing Club and happily in time were elected to the office of Commodore. I followed in his footsteps some years later. Based from this club, I sailed and raced sailing dinghies in the UK for many years and was involved with various Sports Council bodies, along with running a business with my Father. Now being the present proprietor of Greek Sailing Holidays, allowed me to seek a way of life, which would enable me to pass on to others the skills of sailing and with the help of instructors that of windsurfing. |
